An important part of education at CCSC is the ongoing capability of our college to introduce our students to new concepts, ideas and experiences. Importantly, academic staff are also always looking to improve their capabilities and to keep up to date within their field of expertise. This helps us develop programs and learning activities which engage, enthuse and develop our students as well as to meet the requirements of NESA.
Last week Stage 3 and 4 experienced poetry in an original and exciting presentation. The team from Poetry in Action performed two shows for our students in the Stage 4 space. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience of poetry being presented as a drama piece technique called ‘The Paper Tiger.’ The actors were enthusiastic and energetic and loved our kids! For their part our students posed some excellent questions and were interested in how the actors learnt their lines and how long it took to learn them.
Meanwhile, Miranda and I have been outscursioning (yes, I made that up!) each weeknight and Saturdays to a secret location marking English HSC papers. Next week Stage 6 English begins for 2017/2018. I always begin the year explaining to students that HSC markers are teachers such as Miranda and I, so they are in safe hands. HSC marking is invaluable experience for us, as we can keep up to date with the standards and expectations of NESA for HSC English. We are also able to chat with many other English teachers and discover new ideas, texts and assessments for English across all stages.
